This article provides information pertaining to a user who completes a successful install of SecureDoc on a device however after encryption completes successfully and device is restarted, the user encounters a BlockIoWriteBlock error after succesfull login to SecureDoc Preboot but will launch Windows successfully.
Client Scenario:
- Able to successfully install SecureDoc.
- Confirmed BootLogon installed successfully
- logs into Windows and completes encryption successfully
- Upon restart of device, Login to Preboot Screen is successful
- encounters black screen with BlockIoWriteblocks encrypt error
but will continue to boot to Windows normally

Environment:
At the time of when this article was published, it’s possible that there may be other devices which may experience similar error. The following devices have encountered this event:
Surface Pro 4 / Surface Pro 2017 / Certain Lenovo device(s)
Possible Cause:
There’s been previously identified scenario in which the BlockIoWriteBlocks error had occurred due to an attempt to write to SecureDocSpace via BSD driver which is not allowed to take place.
Proposed Solution:
A correction was made to temporarily allow SDS write control function before updating SecureDocSpace from within pre-boot environment. The correction was made in SecureDoc 7.5 or higher to prevent this error. You can contact WinMagic Support to confirm prior to confirm recommendation prior to upgrading.
