1446 HP Probook Fails to Boot to Windows After SD Authentication in 6.5x

Prev Next

Case Scenario:

Selected HP Probook devices with UEFI BIOS and Windows 8.x and up may experience not being able to boot to Windows after successfully authenticating past SecureDoc's Pre-Boot.

Product version affected:

SD 6.5x and older
Fixed: SD 7.1

Environment:

Selected HP Probook devices with UEFI BIOS
Toshiba Tecra z40
Windows 8.x

Steps to follow:

1. Find out if the device has the latest BIOS installed or not.
2. Manual way of executing our pre-boot ( safest workaround)

  1. Power on the system and press F9
  2. Select “Boot from EFI file” > SYSTEM, Acpi(PN……) > EFI > WinMagic > wmsinit64.efi
  3. The above step should bring our pre-boot and authenticate. After authentication, you be re-directed to BIOS option once again
  4. In there do the following > SYSTEM, Acpi(PN……) > EFI > Boot > Bootx64.efi
  5. Should boot to Windows

3. In SD 7.1 please configure the profile to use V5 Pre-boot Linux (PBLU)
By selecting this option in the Profiles --> Boot Configuration --> General  in SES Console, the PBLU will be installed on the user's system and they will be able to authenticate/login.
For information on how to configure option in SES, see the Enabling Linux-Based on UEFI Devices section in the Quick Deployment Guide for SecureDoc V7.1
