Issue:
Failure of Acronis Backup Software to recover a Windows 8.x image, from an SED drive and cause failure to boot properly

Product Version Affected:
All SD versions

Environment Affected:
Acronis 2014 SW
Note: Acronis 2013 SW is not compatible with Windows 8.x images
All Windows OS and devices

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Load Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 (use UEFI mode) onto your system using an SED compatible SSD drive

  2. Back up your image using Acronis 2014 Backup and Recovery SW

  3. Recover that image to the SSD drive and return drive to system. Boot to Windows

  4. Use selected HW encrypted SW (i.e. WinMagic 6.5) to HW encrypt the drive. Once the process has finished, the Encryption SW will prompt you to shut down the system. Do so

  5. Boot up system again to enter Windows. The Encryption SW will use a Pre-boot authentication before entering Windows. Enter password into pre-boot authentication

  6. After password is successfully entered, the system will fail to boot to Windows

Resolution:
Upgrade the Acronis SW to version 2015 will resolved the issue.
