2077 CPU Usage High After Notebook Encryption

Prev Next

Issue:

After encrypting the hard drive on some notebooks, the CPU usage remains permanently at 50%, causing the notebooks to overheat. This issue occurs sporadically across different notebook models.

Cause:

The issue may be related to the antivirus software (SentinelOne) interacting with the encryption software (SecureDoc).

Resolution:

  1. Verify that all necessary files are included in the antivirus exception list as per the knowledge base article KB 1728.

  2. Use Process Monitor to check for any unusual activity related to SecureDoc.

  3. Create a copy of the profile used for encryption.

  4. In the copy of the profile, under "General," uncheck the option "Protect device against repeated failed attempts at OS logon."

  5. Roll out the new profile on a test machine.

  6. Monitor the CPU usage to see if the issue is resolved.

  7. If the CPU usage decreases and SecureDoc works less intensively, proceed to roll out the new profile to other affected devices.

If the issue persists, further investigation may be required to determine if it is a problem with SentinelOne.
