When trying to upgrade Ubuntu while SecureDoc is already installed, you might run into an error message.
There are several possible symptoms and messages possible:
1) Error message:
The upgrade has aborted.
The upgrade needs a total of 616 M free space on disk '/boot'.
Please free at least an additional 144 M of disk space on '/boot'.
You can remove old kernels using 'sudo apt autoremove' and you could also set COMPRESS=xz in /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf to reduce the size of your initramfs.
2) After grub the screen becomes either black, or just freezes brand logo.
Note: This issue is not caused by WinMagic.
This has been reported in several newsgroups being a problem within Ubuntu and Full Disk Enryption.
In 22.04 it is caused by a new / different compression method for the initramfs. The new compression default is lz4, which is faster, but takes more space in /boot.
In the news groups there are several suggestions how to remedy the issue. Some suggest to change the compression method.
Some suggest to change the modules for initframs, which will shink it.
Some suggest removing unused kernels.
Other suggest to increase the /root a lot.
3) The SecureDoc installation can't find the swap, or says that it can't be used can happen when installing SecureDoc for the first time too.
But in some instances this could also happen after an OS upgrade (especially with unique environment setups).
Please check the "SecureDoc for Linux Endpoint Quick Deployment Guide - Space Requirements"
Note: WinMagic does not take any responsibility for damages
