Title:  Laptop with sensitive touchpad input issues at SecureDoc preboot

Affected Version:
All SecureDoc

Environment:

Laptop with touchpad

Use Case Summary:
At SecureDoc preboot, when user is entering the credential – in some situations the user’s palm may accidentally touches the side of the touchpad and causes the current cursor position to move to another location without the user knowledge and thus the entered credential is incorrect.

Moving the cursor alone would not cause this effect.

An example of the situation:

1) At preboot, press <Enter> and a character. The cursor is now after the character in the password field.

2) While entering the password, part of user palm (of the left hand) accidentally touches the side of the touchpad (top left corner)

3) And then the cursor is moving the username field.

4)        Without knowing the cursor moved, the user continues to input correct password and press <Enter>

5) Preboot shows user password incorrect message

The Cause:

Sometimes part of the palm touches the touchpad (by accidentally) causes the current cursor jumps to other position of the typing password (or jump to the UserID field) – which will lead to incorrect password entered.

Workaround:

Lift the palms a bit higher while typing the password.
