Why am I getting “SDServices is running but the pipes are not running” during attempt to install SecureDoc on a device or during encryption phase?

Problem Scenario

During the process of trying to install Securedoc, on a device, or during encryption phase, the user may encounter the following popup message "SDServices is running but the pipes are not running”

Example:

Possible cause:

It’s likely that during the process of deployment/install/encryption phase, the environment of the device may have been unable to allocate resources for binding a process for a named/unamed pipe within the allotted time. This is used a conduit for client/server communication which is initiated between related and unrelated process(es) that takes place during the install/deployment process.

Possible Workaround/Solution:

  • You might want to check under Services for WinMagic SD Service and change properties to a delayed start and then reboot once change has been applied and retest
  • Sometimes delays could be mitigated by checking to ensure no security policy would block or prevent SDService from running hence you could try whitelisting SDService to prevent any delay where security would scan process (potentially triggering a delay in ability to communicate with other processes hence triggering message.
