Why am I getting a black screen with "Please wait, this might take several seconds" showing up for approx. 2min prior to loading Boot Logon screen?

This article provides further information regarding a current limitation issue which was identified

Environment Tested:

Device: Dell 7450

Drive: Samsung EVO 850 SED SSD using hardware encryption

SecureDoc Version: 7.3.0 B161

Windows OS: Windows 7 (64bit)

Testing was performed using remote package setup to client with the following options enabled:

  • No provisioning
  • RMCE
  • SFE
  • Preboot x32

Once installed, the client machine is shutdown after encrypted has completed successfully.

Device is then powered on and the following was observed:

Expected results:  It was expected for a black screen to occur with "Please wait, this might take several seconds..."  The should have appeared for < 10 seconds

Actual result:  The boot loader is shown approx. 10 seconds however, the black screen with "Please wait, this might take several seconds..." continues to show for approx. 2 minutes before the Boot Logon screen is displayed

Note: This bug does NOT occur on SES7.1 Sr4 B136 WIn8.1x64 PBLU. The text is shown about 4s

Probable Cause:

Our development team has confirmed a limitation issue under the new kernel (4.7.5) Further testing to support this finding was also done using kernel version 4.26 in which the identified behavior does not occur.  From reviewing  logs from this new linux kernel, our development could identify a delay relating to an interrupt request issue with IRQ #11 (relating  to USB) which resulted  in behavior observed.

Proposed Solution:

In order to overcome the limitation issue which has been identified in SES 7.3, it’s recommended to include a Boot Parameter to be added in the package profile in SES:

  • Select the created <Profile> and press Enter key  to modify the profile:
  • Click on Boot Configuration then Advance Options
  • Enter the following infor in Boot Parameters:
