Topic:
This articles describes an incompatibility with HP Recovery and HP tools partitions and SD Disk Encryption, and how to work around this to ensure the remainder of the device is encrypted.
Symptom:
After SecureDoc is installed and the entire hard drive is encrypted, HP Recovery and HP Tools are not accessible since these partitions will also have been encrypted. This usually occurs on HP platforms with the default image where the recovery/tools partitions exist.
Product version affected:
All SD versions
Environment:
Windows OS based
HP devices with HP Recovery and HP Tools
Cause:
This occurs because the partitions HP_TOOLS and HP_RECOVERY have been encrypted and thus cannot be accessed before the machine is unlocked via SecureDoc's pre-boot authentication.
Resolution:
Do not encrypt the HP_TOOLS or HP_RECOVERY partitions. This will normally require that the device be Partition-encrypted manually, so that these specific partitions can be excluded from the list of partitions to be encrypted.
