Issue: This article addresses a known incompatibility with SecureDoc and Validity fingerprint sensor.
Symptom: SecureDoc is installed with the option to convert to fingerprint protection. Following the encryption, SecureDoc prompts the user to convert to fingerprint protection but is unable to do so. This has been tested and confirmed on the HP EliteBook 8770w but also applies to other models.
Probable Cause: The Validity fingerprint sensor is not supported by SecureDoc.
Product version affected: Affects all versions of SD
Environment: Windows 10 OS
HP EliteBook 8770w, and other HP and Lenovo devices that are equipped with Validity Fingerprint Reader.
Resolution: Do not use the Validity fingerprint reader as a method of authentication with SecureDoc. Ensure that the SecureDoc configuration or Profile (for SES-managed users) does not specify Fingerprint as the token type when deploying that profile or configuration to a Validity fingerprint sensor-equipped device.
WinMagic is currently working on adding the support for the Validity Fingerprint Reader on some HP business laptop models in future versions of SD.
