IMPORTANT: Before proceeding: If you are uninstalling SecureDoc for Mac from a portable Mac computer, be sure the computer is connected to mains power (not running only on batteries) for the duration of the decryption and software removal process. This process might be lengthy and due to high disk and processor activity can easily exceed available battery power, even with fully-charged fresh batteries. NOTE: If you have Full-Disk encrypted any vital removable media using the key that protects the Mac device from which SecureDoc will be removed, then you should strongly consider decrypting those items of removable media prior to removing SecureDoc (especially if running SecureDoc Stand-Alone version) as the Encryption Key that protects those media might not have been granted to other users, which can render that media unreadable since there will be no means of accessing it without SecureDoc + that specific encryption key. This may be less of a consideration if this Mac device is one of many devices managed by SecureDoc Enterprise, since the SES Administrator will be able to locate that key in the SES database/console and can securely provide it to other members of your organization when authorized to do so. If you have any questions about this, please contact WinMagic Support to discuss details before proceeding to Pre-requisite: SecureDoc protects itself against being uninstalled by unauthorized users. The user login indicated in steps 2 and 3 below requires that the user logging in must have logged in at Pre-Boot using a User ID having SecureDoc Administrator-level rights, without which the Uninstall process will not be permitted to continue. As of version 5.3SR4, any other user attempting to perform this will receive a message indicating that message indicating that the password is incorrect.
You will be prompted to confirm that you want to remove protection from this device. 2. Enter your SecureDoc password and click OK. 3. You will be prompted again to confirm your intent to remove protection from this device. 4. The decryption process will proceed. All data will be decrypted. NOTE: This process will take approximately the same amount of time as was taken during initial encryption. Unless using a Self-Encrypting Drive (SED), divide the size of the disk in Gigabytes by 20 and by 50 to determine the worst-case and best-case times (in hours). e.g. 160GB / 20 = 8 hours 160GB / 50 = 3.2 hrs 5. You will be prompted to complete the uninstall. This will restart your computer. 6. When the computer restarts, the SecureDoc software will be automatically uninstalled.
