How to remove boot logon after re-formatting the drive
Issue: The boot logon is still visible after formatting a SecureDoc encrypted disk, after decrypting. You may also not be able to boot Windows after installing the boot logon, even though the disk is not encrypted. You may also receive a SecCode not found error instead of viewing the boot logon.
Reason: SecureDoc places a pointer in the Master boot Record (MBR) of a drive to execute the SecureDoc Boot Logon. When the disk is formatted, the MBR is not reset, so the boot logon will continue to load. When decrypting a disk, to remove boot logon is a secondary process which is performed manually after the drive is decrypted. SecCode not found may appear if the SecureDoc Boot Code cannot be found to be executed.
Solution: There are several methods which can be used to remove the boot logon. The best method of ensuring the boot logon is removed is by going through the process outlined in KB 1408 How to decrypt and uninstall SecureDoc from a machine. You can also refer to KB 1061 How to use WinMagic recovery utilities the section on RemoveBL.exe for instructions to use the WinMagic tool to remove the boot logon.
If you are unable to remove the boot logon using one of the methods from the KB 1408 or 1061, please review the alternate methods below.
WARNING: Before continuing, it is important to ensure the disk is decrypted, and that all data has been backed up.
