SFE – Editing Encrypted Photo Files on Windows 11
When preparing a photo for editing on Windows 11, File Explorer may appear greyed out if the file is encrypted. To successfully edit an encrypted photo using the default editor, follow the steps below.

Prerequisites
SecureDoc (SD) package is successfully deployed to the client.
SFE + PE are enabled.
Configuration Steps
Create an encrypted folder
On the SD Client, existing a folder named ‘Multiple’ is encrypted by SFE successfully
Example SFE path: C:\Users\...\Desktop\SFE1\MultipleOnce encrypted, a green lock icon appears on the folder/files, confirming encryption.
Allow the Photos application
Click on SDPin.
Navigate to:
SecureDoc File Encryption → Application Access ListThe SFE Global Application Access List window opens.
Add Photo.exe to the Whitelist (either by resetting settings or adding it manually).
Save the changes.
Open the encrypted file
Access the encrypted “Multiple” folder.
Open a photo file.
The photo should open without errors.
Editing the Photo
Case 1: Using the Legacy Photos App
Open the photo with the Photos app.
Click the three dots (⋯) in the top toolbar.
Select Settings.
Enable Use Legacy Photos app.
Reopen the photo using Legacy Photos.
Edit the photo and save successfully.
Case 2: Editing a Downloaded Photo
Download the encrypted photo to the client.
Note: The photo does not automatically decrypt after downloading.
Use the SFE Utility to manually decrypt the file.
Open the decrypted photo.
Edit and save the photo successfully.
