Microsoft Surface Pro 4/2017, Surface Book 2 And SecureDoc Version 8.2

Attention:  Customers that utilize Microsoft Surface Pro 4/2017 and Surface Book 2 Devices:

In v7.5 SR1 and earlier, SecureDoc had many limitations with both the Microsoft Surface Pro 4/2017 and Surface Book 2 devices.  In many cases, there was unsupported PBA functionality that would prevent users from logging into systems at pre-boot, due to no support for keyboards, mouse, network adapters, and more.

In addition to these cases, additional implementation was required for the touch screen support controls on these devices.  The above cases have been resolved, but will require special release notifications for 8.2 - please find these details below.

With and Without Touch Screen Support

The regular SecureDoc client released in SES v8.2 addresses the pre-boot cases above for the MS Surface Pro 4/2017 and Surface Book 2 devices, except for the touch screen support.

For customers that require Touch Screen Support at pre-boot, the solution is provided through a separate SecureDoc client installer - specifically and ONLY for customers who need touch screen support on these devices.  This is ONLY supported under SES V8.2 and future versions.  The need for this separate installer is driven by differences in the SecureDoc Pre-Boot Kernel required to handle the On-Screen Keyboard for these devices.

Customers that utilize Microsoft Surface Pro 4/2017 and Surface Book 2 devices are recommended to closely review the Installer PDF File, where they will see links for this special installer, which must be used specifically (and ONLY) on these device types.

The installation instructions from the product downloads PDF is repeated below:

For installation on Microsoft Surface Pro 1/2/3 or Surface Book, you may use the standard SES Installer for these devices with support for on-screen keyboard and external devices at pre-boot.

For installation on Microsoft Surface Pro 4, Surface Pro 2017 or Surface Book 2, you must use the new Surface Installer (64-bit). This new installer supports on-screen keyboards and external devices at pre-boot (13” and 15” Screen Models).

Customers that utilize the Surface installer .EXE file (64-bit) must download the .EXE file from the links provided in the Downloads PDF file, then insert them into the SES Installer folder after installation or upgrade of SecureDoc Enterprise Server.

How to Update Surface Installer:
1. Download the Surface installer .EXE file from the links on the next page of this document, then place the downloaded Surface installer file in the SES Binary Installation files directory (normally this will be: C:\Program Files (x86)\WinMagic\SDDB-NT\Binary Installation Files\WindowsPC)

2. For customers that are upgrading their SES Environment:
•• The Surface installer file should be manually copied into each Windows installation package, or
•• Right-click on each Windows client installation package and select the “Create package files” option in the menu that appears, refreshing the installation package and replacing both the .MSI and .EXE Installer executable files with those from the Binary Installation files folder.
