Title | Upgrading the SES Database on Microsoft SQL Server 2016 CU6/CU7 hangs |
URL Name | Upgrading-the-SES-Database-on-Microsoft-SQL-Server-2016-CU6-CU7-hangs |
Summary | After installing an updated version of the SES console, the database requires upgrading and in preforming this on Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Cumulative Update 6 or 7, the SES console hangs. |
Issue:
After installing an updated version of the SES console, the database requires upgrading. In preforming this on Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Cumulative Update 6 or 7, the SES console hangs.
The occurs because the Cumulative Updates for SQL Server 2016 starting with 6, prevents the execution of a critical SQL directive when preforming the database upgrade
Affected Environment:
SQL Version | Build Number |
Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Cumulative Update 6 | 13.0.5292.0 |
Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Cumulative Update 7 | 13.0.5337.0 13.0.5343.1 13.0.5366.0 13.0.5382.0 |
Fix:
Please upgrade to Cumulative update 8 or later for SQL Server 2016
Workaround:
If you are unable to perform the update as recommended, there is a workaround as documented from Microsoft Support: (Changed with the relevant details).
Please run the following scripts against the SQL server
-- Stop the audit:
ALTER SERVER AUDIT AuditName WITH (STATE = OFF) GO
-- Change the database isolation level:
ALTER DATABASE WMTemplate SET ALLOW_SNAPSHOT_ISOLATION ON
-- Turn the audit back on:
ALTER SERVER AUDIT AuditName WITH (STATE = ON) GO
