Is it possible to remove 3rd-party management of a Seagate FDE.2 DriveTrust self-encrypting drive?
Scenario 1: A customer is unhappy with another encryption management product that is capable of managing Seagate DriveTrust FDE.2 drives (e.g. Wave), and now wishes to install or evaluate SecureDoc on the same drive.
Q - Is it possible within SecureDoc to "un-manage" that drive so that SecureDoc can be installed?
Scenario 2: Customer believes he has un-managed the drive using (what he believes are appropriate tools in the other encryption product) on one particular machine, and has re-imaged it, yet SecureDoc client still sees enough of the original product on that drive to believe it’s not a suitable candidate to complete the installation, so installation fails.
Q - Does the customer need to get in touch with the other ISV (e.g. Wave), or Seagate?
Does SecureDoc have something (HWEMNGR.exe?) that could help him get this drive to a point that he can install
the SecureDoc client?
ANSWER:
We cannot remove management or cryptoerase a Drivetrust drive that was managed by another ISV.
The prospect will need to contact the other encryption vendor (e.g. Wave) or Seagate to be able remove management of the DriveTrust drive.
