How to log into boot logon with an administrative account?

In the event an administrator needs to log into SecureDoc Control Center with administrative rights, he/she will need to log into boot logon with an administrative key file.

Possible reasons for doing this:

  • to decrypt the hard drive(s), or
  • to change SecureDoc configurations, etc.

First, review the SES User Manual subsection entitled "Adding Key Files to a User" (you'll find this in the Chapter entitled "Working with SES Management Console", in the section entitled "Working with Users").  You'll be creating this key file using a User Account that has Administrator rights, of course.

After creating the key file, save it to a token, USB drive or floppy. The administrator can then attach it to the user's computer.

At boot logon, type the full path to the token, USB drive or floppy used.

  • For a USB drive or floppy, type the full path and file
  • For a key file on token, enter the number 0 beside Default User ID.

Make sure the administrative key file contains the same AES encryption key being used to encrypt the computer.

NOTE: When using a USB drive, the BIOS must be able to support USB drives at pre-boot.
