Push notifications from SES server to Apple/iOS devices fail

SES Mobile Device Management for managing Apple iOS devices.

Apple has recently dropped SSL3 support for their Apple Push notification Service, and has switched to TLS. Details of this can be found in this link:
https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=10222014a

Unfortunately, Apple's partners (including WinMagic) were given very little advance notice of this change.  The Apple intent was announced Oct 22nd, 2014, and implemented on Oct 29th, 2014.

Implications of this change:

For WinMagic customers that are using SecureDoc Enterprise Server's Mobile Device Management to manage Apple IOS devices (iPad, iPhone devices), the operations through which an SES Administrator can:

  • remotely wipe
  • remotely lock

an IOS device will no longer work, until a code patch can be applied to the necessary SecureDoc Enterprise Server components to change MDM support from SSL3 to TLS.

Solution

This has been corrected in SecureDoc Version 6.5.
