Invalid password on RMCE device, challenge response error 0xD0000005

Problem Scenario:

A customer is reporting that they’ve receive an invalid password message while trying to access a USB device that is encrypted with RMCE.  

Possible Cause:

The error 0xD0000005 is rather uncommon event to occur.  The possible reason why this error may have occurred is due to an error writing to disk.  When such an event occurs, it could result in having compromised the integrity of USB device’s file system which may have become corrupted.

Proposed Solution:

  • Consider inserting the USB device into another computer (with or without SecureDoc installed) and perform a Challenge Response.  Please refer to KB 1186 for further instructions.
  • Try reformatting the USB device and then re-encrypt

Now verify and confirm if USB works in the original device which initially encountered the error.
