Performance counter issue

Symptom:  Service cannot be started. System.InvalidOperationException: The requested Performance Counter is not a custom counter, it has to be initialized as ReadOnly.

Cause:  The performance counters on your server have become corrupt and need to be repaired.
 
Resolution: Rebuild windows performance counter by executing the following command:
a.       Click Start, type cmd right click cmd.exe, and select Run as administrator.
At the prompt, type lodctr /r and press ENTER. This will repair the pointers (those are stored in the registry).
b.      C:\Windows\system32>lodctr /r
c.       Info: Successfully rebuilt performance counter setting from system backup store
