Does SecureDoc support OPAL SEDs as boot drives if connected via USB or FireWire?
ANS: No, the SecureDoc Mac client cannot be booted from a USB-or FireWire-connected external OPAL-compliant SED.
During installation, SecureDoc is not able to detect SED system drives as SEDs when they are connected externally, and will attempt to perform software encryption on those drives instead of recognizing that they are already hardware-encrypted.
SecureDoc cannot unlock a SED drive which is connected to the device using USB or FireWire at pre-boot. The SecureDoc pre-boot EFI does not support pass-through commands to an SED drive connected using USB or FireWire . Only AHCI mode is supported (internal drive).
