General Security Recommendations - Malware Detection and Removal

While SecureDoc performs an invaluable service ensuring that data is protected by encryption, and that user access to SecureDoc-protected devices is locked down and governed by permitting only specific users to authenticate at Pre-Boot, there are other risks that any security-conscious organization should be aware of and include in its overall security design.

While WinMagic does not make any specific recommendations regarding selection of anti-malware products, there are many class-leading offerings available, many of which have become household names, and it is incumbent upon the organization deploying SecureDoc to ensure that a product that meets their data security/integrity requirements has been selected and implemented.

Malware Detection

By itself, SecureDoc does not detect or mitigate the presence or actions of Malware, Viruses or Trojans.  In order to ensure customers are protected against such threats, WinMagic recommends all customers use anti-virus and anti-malware tools that will a) actively detect such malware threats and b) protect and inoculate/remove such threats against data-in-motion, to supplement the use of SecureDoc Encryption to protect data at rest.

Keeping Protection up-to-date

Further, such tools should be kept current, and virus/trojan and malware signatures be kept up-to-date, ideally through automation of frequent application of available updates offered by whatever anti-malware provider the customer chooses.
