Feature: UEFI , Force Direct Boot To Windows

This explanatory article discusses the “Force Direct Boot to Windows” PBU/PBLU" option, which is intended to allow PBU to run a UEFI-Standard Boot loader (\EFI\Boot\BOOT<cpu-arch>.EFI) directly after successful authentication fails to return  control to UEFI BIOS Boot Manager.

Description:

“Force Direct Boot to Windows” PBU/PBLU option is intended to allow PBU to run UEFI Standard Booter (\EFI\Boot\BOOT<cpu-arch>.EFI) directly after successful authentication fails to return  control to UEFI BIOS Boot Manager.

This feature is implemented to fix UEFI BIOS issue when the BIOS invalidates “Windows Boot Manager” boot option for locked SED before SD runs and cannot boot Windows on successful PBU exit because Windows related boot option stays invalidated (its boot path does not point to “\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi”).

In this case running UEFI standard boot path (\EFI\Boot\BOOT<cpu-arch>.EFI) will run above mentioned Windows Boot Manager.

Environment:

7.1sr4
UEFI Based system
Opal\hardware encrypted system
This feature is enabled by default for Dell systems
