1414 SES Installation failures when using SQL 2012 or SQL Express 2012 Database Engines

Prev Next

Issue:

Clients may have issues when installing 6.1SR1 and subsequent versions of SES on SQL 2012 as well as SQL Express 2012 database engines, such that SDConnex or ADSync services will be unable to start if running on the same server.

Reason:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 no longer automatically provides the local system account with SysAdmin rights to the SQL Server.

Impact:
With this, the SDConnex will not start if running on the same server.

Normally, when working with SQL on a different server, the Admin would normally have:

  • used SQL Management Studio to define rights for the Admin account of the SES server, or

  • defined a Service Account under which these services will run

The use of service accounts is the preferred, recommended methodology across the board.

Resolution:

It is recommended that you either create a service account with SQL rights for the SES database, or assign rights to the Local System account for the SES database.
